And the NBU take on things ... https://www.gov.uk/government/news/a...-in-lancashire
Very much further North than would be expected from the time of season, known migration rate (from studies in France*) and previous location so I suspect it's an import.
* analysis by NBU suggests spread from original Tetbury site in 2016 would take about 20 years to reach Lancashire based upon the mean dispersal distance of queens (<20 miles) and the temperature gradient North to South. Of course, this assumes that a) they're established in the South-West which certainly isn't a given and b) they don't get imported and established elsewhere. The mean dispersal distance of a caravan + stowaway hornet returning from holiday in the Auvergne is a bit more than 20 miles
It was spotted by a member of the public in an item of food, which has since been traced back to Boston. That’s why we are taking swift and robust action to locate and investigate any nests in the Bury and Boston areas following this confirmed sighting.” http://aboutmanchester.co.uk/asian-h...otted-in-bury/
Looks like someone jumped the gun, it was spotted by a member of the public no confirmation as to its identity by anyone qualified to do so, there is believed to be a picture but why was no body found at scene of crime did they just let it go. So not confirmed by anyone of authority??? Anyone hear anything confirming it.
There's a couple of threads on the BKF ... however, the NBU are usually very careful about making announcements, so the link posted above (#2) probably indicates a pretty good level of certainty.
Saw an update on facebook so confirmation still stands if I can post it later I will. Interested in this topic..
It was probably written by a Russian fake news bot ...
I don't know looks like society is going that way fast where nothing can be believed at face value sad but that's what the people voted for.
Another Asian hornet which was found last Thursday near the Longfrie in St Peters.

The Guernsey one could well be over-wintered which means that there are more and in words of a Vogon, resistance(eradication) is useless - one they are on an island they will be there for good! With luck the Bury one is a rogue one. However they are going to hit the mainland sooner or later. Are we all prepared ladies and gents?
