I spent the first 7 weeks of 2010 out of the country so the bees were free from any temptation I may have had to tinker. I made my first check on 21st February and was really pleased to find signs of life in all 13 colonies and nucs All were treated with Oxalic on 22nd December and I had fed over 100k of sugar in September and October. A sunny day without wind at last. Two colonies and two nucs still alive and flying, though the temperature away from direct sun was only 4 degrees. I suspect they were only doing what my granny used to call 'powdering one's nose', otherwise known as 'taking a comfort break' as there was no sign of any of them on the nearby snowdrops. I think I'll make some more candy tomorrow.
Hi, I'll be off to Italy/France in June through November and want to work for a few months on an organic bee-farm to learn more about keeping of bees (all my hives in Moray/Scotland have died over the last 4 years) and possibly bring back a couple of colonies. Anyone knows of some beekeepers over there who would welcome help?
