First post - hope this is the appropriate forum:

On Thursday 14th at 9.30pm Radio 4 'Saving Species' included commentary on study into the feeding patterns of bees in the south of England. Also included comment on the spread of the Ivy Bee northwards; potential link to habitat/climate change.

The programme can be found on BBC iPlayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/v71v3/

Hi Alex

A warm welcome to the forum - thanks for posting. I'll listen to that programme tonight. The ivy bee is one of several that have been spreading recently. The most conspicuous is the tree bee (Bombus hypnorum) which has had a phenomenal spread through England since 2001. There is no confirmed sighting for Scotland as far as I am aware, although there was an unconfirmed one for Fife. If it wasn't found in Scotland this year it may be next.

best wishes

Gavin
