What is the difference between a Commercial hive and a Modified Commercial hive
I know the difference between an National and a Modified one - they are all made as modified ones which use less wood and they have decent hand-holds where the wood used to be. I didn't know that there was such a thing as a modified Commercial ?

MAFF did a pamphlet on it once ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Modified-Commercial-Fisheries-Ministry-Agriculture/dp/B00570BM5K
Emily Scott comments on it in her blog ... https://adventuresinbeeland.com/2011/12/04/1st-honeybee-management-revision-post-hive-types-and-frame-sizes-used-in-the-uk/
Even the SBA refer to it (as 'unusual' ... or 16x10) ... https://www.scottishbeekeepers.org.uk/images/education/studynotes/Chapter2.pdf
As to what the difference is ... dunno ;)
I suspect, like the National, there was a Commercial which was, er, modified and this then became the norm. As Adam said, our British Nationals are actually Modified Nationals.
Unless they're Swienty 10 frame boxes with no bottom rebate that is ;)

I am not sure how one would modify a commercial - there's little to modify.
