Self-assembly guidance

That title sounds a bit .. umm ... Frankensteinish. But you know what I mean. Thorne have posted a video on YouTube that gives the clearest guidance I know on assembling a flat pack brood body (and super for that matter). Pleased to see metal runners and a lack of castellations are standard :).

LOL castellations... hate them btw... was at a supplier in Devon I think it was and he offered me them I said no ta works of the devil and he replied I've got 350 broods with them fitted....LOL OOOPS

How one can work a BB efficiently when you canna push the frames just beats me.

I bought a colony a couple of years ago that turned out to have castellations in the brood box. I know a select few swear by them, I swore at them! They really didn't fit the way that I like to make space and then work through the box.

I've also learnt from the video that my way of putting supers together is at best "non-standard". I put all the rails in first to one side then hammer the other side on - with the inner boards standing up between, so they all go together at once. A bit of tapping and the inner boards are levelled up. Frame rails go in last. I also glue and screw, rather than nailing. Maybe I am just odd?

Nice video though, wish I'd seen it ages ago!

I prefer stainless steel screws to nails
(I think they will prove to be more enduring)
I use filler where I've countersunk them so time wise its not of great benefit

Does anyone have a source for stainless steel frame runners?
