I noticed that our local Lidl has "honey" for sale at £1.50 and £1.75 per pound .Wonder what it is and where it comes from ?.

Down here, the LIDL honey is marked
origin: inside and outside of the European Union.
They haven't dared to put "honey and not honey".

Research on the internet suggests it might be the so called "ultrafiltered" or UF honey which is the product of some very dodgy sources. I wonder if anyone buys it ?.

Yes, people do buy it. I used to before getting bees. It's better than any other basic supermarket honey and doesn't instantly granulate and set tock hard like the T*sco stuff.
