70% down !!
70% down !!
But N.I. did the best!
I was surprised to read that as most beekeepers I know got nothing or next to nothing this year.
I got 90lbs from one I have in the garden which is a good spot due to suburban garden forage but most of the rest gave about 25-30 lbs.

I got my first honey this year [ 25lbs ] from a split I did from my original hive - it tasted better being my first honey too. They only stopped honey production when I had to requeen them, as they had turned into nasty little bees [ good experience though]. Nevertheless I was delighted with the harvest, even though I had been told that normally I would not get any from a split. The original hive produced zilch, nada, nothing.
It is always a trade off - the more you split the less honey you are likely to get.
I made up a load of nucs in July and August so that would have reduced my honey yield a bit.

I did a split too and still got my first honey - 11 lbs. Like you Marion I got nothing from my original hive but then I went on holiday in July and they swarmed. Such a shame as they had been so strong.

Some locals got virtually nothing this year but we were lucky, with about 75lbs from 3 hives. The best was just short of 50 lbs.

only two of mine bought anything in, most during the one nice week in May when it didn't rain. I got around 40lbs in total.

I got 140lbs of honey from 5 colonies this year and my other 3 produced nothing. I got 240lbs of honey last year and even that was below average. I have only 8 jars left to see me through to next august!!!
