can someone answer on a few questions below? Thank you in advance... I'm a beekeeper from Croatia and would like to compare bee/honey situations in countries...

how many beekeepers are in your country? how many small vs. big? I would say small are those under 100 hives?

How many hives are in your country? For example 300.000?

Are there more hobbist or commercial beekeepers?

What is the total annual production of honey?

How much is exported and imported yearly?

Where are the exports going the most?

What is the average production per hive in your country? 10 kg? 20 kg? more?

How many beekeepers are in your Beekeeper association and how many are not members?

What are the experiences with membership in the alliance?

Any financial supports from the Association or goverment for beekeepers?

Is beekeeping in urban areas/cities allowed?

Is beekeeping in urban areas/cities allowed?

Yes. There is no need for a permit to keep bees on your own land, in your own garden or on somebody else's property, with their permission. It might not be wise to try to keep bees on the balcony of a 6th, or 25th floor flat but there are many rooftop hives.

There is no legal requirement to register your hives either with the government or any other organisation, but the rest of your answers can probably be found by searching Beebase statistics https://secure.fera.defra.gov.uk/beebase/index.cfm or looking at the annual surveys on the BBKA site http://www.bbka.org.uk/news_and_events/press_office/press_releases.php?year=2011&month=10

You will probably find much of what you need from this link (for France that is).

Perhaps similar audits exist for other countries.
